Major
In addition to completing the general education requirements, each student must pursue at least one area of knowledge in depth. This is done by completing the requirements for a major concentration. In order to declare a major, complete a Declaration of Major Form (found at the bottom of this page). This form needs to be completed and signed by both the Department Chair and the academic advisor before filing it with the Registrar's Office.
Completed forms can be scanned and emailed (or signed electronically and emailed) to registrar@36837a.com or dropped off in person at Recitation Hall room 21. Forms missing signatures will be rejected.
Some students may plan interdepartmental majors composed of courses selected from several departments but all contributing to some unified purpose or theme.
A student desiring to plan an interdepartmental major must make suitable arrangements early in the college career and file with the Office of the Assistant Provost for Academic Services departments in which the courses are planned. The petition must include a full statement of the student's objectives and of the plan for an interdepartmental major. Such a proposal should specify the courses to be taken.
The student must declare a major and file a form no later than the end of the Spring semester of the sophomore year. Registration for the junior year is not permitted until a Declaration of Major Form has been filed with the Registrar's Office.
Minor
The student has the option of completing the requirements for one or more minors. In order to declare a minor, the student must complete a Declaration of Minor Form (found at the bottom of this page). This form must be completed and signed by both the Department Chair and the academic advisor before filing it with the Registrar's Office.
Completed forms can be scanned and emailed (or signed electronically and emailed) to registrar@36837a.com or dropped off in person at Recitation Hall room 21. Forms missing signatures will be rejected.
The deadline for filing for a minor is the Friday of the end of the first week of classes of the semester in which you will finish your degree requirements.
